Vietnamese Electric Vehicle Company Exports First Batch to the Philippines

Published: 8.28.2024

Selex Motors has made a significant leap in its regional expansion by exporting its first batch of electric motorcycles to the Philippines marking it’s a milestone to become a leading player in Southeast Asia’s EV market.

Selex Motors, founded in 2018, has emerged as a leading player in the electric motorcycle market. The company's innovative business model revolves around a comprehensive battery-swapping ecosystem, designed to address the key barriers to EV adoption. By providing a quick and convenient solution for exchanging depleted batteries for fully charged ones, Selex Motors mirrors the ease of refueling traditional gasoline vehicles, making electric motorcycles a more practical and accessible choice for riders.

Selex’s entry into the Philippine market is part of a broader strategy to expand its footprint across Southeast Asia. The company’s electric motorcycles, including models like the Selex Camel, are now available in Manila through local distribution networks. This expansion is expected to cater to the growing demand for sustainable transportation in the Philippines, a market that is increasingly supportive of green technologies.

The move follows Selex’s recent partnership with Samsung SDI, a global leader in battery manufacturing. This collaboration is set to further enhance Selex’s technological capabilities, particularly in the development and supply of advanced electric motorcycle batteries for both the Vietnamese and Southeast Asian markets.

Nguyen Huu Phuoc Nguyen, CEO and Co-Founder of Selex Motors, emphasized the importance of this expansion: “Our entry into the Philippine market is a significant step forward in our mission to lead the transformation of urban transportation in Southeast Asia. With our innovative battery-swapping technology and strong partnerships, we are confident in our ability to provide sustainable, efficient, and cost-effective mobility solutions.”

The Philippines represents a key market for Selex Motors, not only for its vehicle sales but also as a potential hub for its battery-swapping technology. The company is in discussions to establish a network of battery-swapping stations across major cities, which could revolutionize the way electric vehicles are used and maintained in the region.

As the demand for electric vehicles continues to rise across Southeast Asia, Selex Motors’ entry into the Philippines is seen as a crucial move that could significantly influence the region’s shift towards more sustainable urban mobility solutions.
