Ranked No.212 on the 2023 Fortune Global 500 list, BYD Rolled Off Its 5 Millionth New Energy Vehicle

BYD, the world’s leading manufacturer of new energy vehicles and power batteries, rolled off its 5 million new energy vehicle (NEV), a DENZA N7, on August 9th, making it the first automaker in the world to achieve this milestone.

BYD spent 13 years for the first million new energy vehicles, another 18 months to reach three million, and today astoundingly, just 9 more months to hit the five million mark. 

“Today marks a historic moment for BYD as we witness our 5 millionth new energy vehicle rolls off the production line”, said Wang Chuanfu, Chairman and President of the company, at the ceremony held at BYD’s global headquarters to celebrate this momentous achievement. “On this special occasion, we would like to extend our sincere gratitude to our customers across the globe for their trust in our products, our partners in the industry for this journey shared together, and every one of our employees whose hard work and dedication have made this landmark possible.”

The ranking of automotive companies in the Fortune 500 in 2023 shows significant differences. Among the 23 companies that have been on the list for two years, 13 have risen and 10 have fallen. BYD ranked No.212 on the 2023 Fortune Global 500 list. The global green technology leader has ascended 224 positions compared to last year, making it the fastest-growing Chinese company on the list.

BYD reported an annual revenue of RMB 424.061 billion in 2022, a year-on-year increase of 96.2%, with all major operational indicators reaching unprecedented highs. Total sales of BYD’s new energy vehicles (NEVs) in 2022 amounted to over 1.86 million, solidifying the company’s position as the world’s leading NEV manufacturer. From January to July of 2023, BYD achieved a cumulative sales volume of 1.5 million units, which includes 92,469 units sold overseas. This overseas sales figure surpassed the total overseas sales for the entirety of 2022. As of July 2023, BYD has sold over 4,800,000 new energy vehicles globally.

Since its foundation in 1995, BYD has consistently been at the forefront of technological advancements. BYD has 11 research institutes, over 90,000 R&D staff, and a total R&D investment of over 100 billion RMB. Now, on average, it submits 19 patent applications and obtains 15 patent authorizations every working day. Innovations like Blade Battery, DM-i Super Hybrid System, e-Platform 3.0, CTB Technology, e4 Platform, and the DiSus Intelligent Body Control System, have set new standards in the industry and solidified BYD’s position as a trailblazer in the electric vehicle market.
