Intel Nears Agreement with German Government for Increased Subsidies

Published: 6.22.2023

Intel, the leading chipmaker, is reportedly on the verge of finalizing an agreement with the German government to receive 9.9 billion euros in subsidies. This figure marks an increase from the previously agreed amount of 6.8 billion euros. Citing government sources, Handelsblatt reported that the final negotiations would lead to an agreement signing in Berlin, with Intel CEO Pat Geisinger and government representatives in attendance.

The additional funding will likely contribute to Intel's initiatives in research and development, infrastructure expansion, and talent acquisition. It aims to strengthen Intel's position as a key player in the semiconductor market and drive forward advancements in cutting-edge technologies such as artificial intelligence, 5G, and high-performance computing.

This agreement comes at a critical time when global demand for semiconductors is surging, and countries are striving to enhance their domestic chip production capabilities. The collaboration between Intel and the German government reinforces Germany's ambition to become a significant player in semiconductor manufacturing, reducing dependency on foreign suppliers and ensuring a secure supply chain for critical technologies.
