GlobalFoundries Unveils Remote Factory Hub in Penang

GlobalFoundries launches a groundbreaking remote factory control hub in Penang, Malaysia. The innovative Factory Control Tower (FCT) will oversee manufacturing operations in multiple countries, a pivotal step in the semiconductor industry. This development brings significant investments and job opportunities to the region.
Ang Kay Chai, GlobalFoundries' Chief Manufacturing Officer, outlined plans to use global talent for 24/7 remote factory support. The FCT will employ Industry 4.0 solutions for real-time monitoring across all GlobalFoundries' sites.
The investment includes RM4.7 million (approx. US$1 million) for the FCT's establishment and RM32.8 million (approx. US$7 million) for training. The hub currently hosts 300 professionals, aiming for expansion upon success.
Penang's semiconductor expertise made it an ideal location. Chow Kon Yeow, Penang's Chief Minister, emphasized training in cutting-edge technologies, anticipating a trillion-dollar semiconductor industry by 2030.
