Published: 7.22.2024

BYD will establish its second production base in Southeast Asia, and the location is Cambodia. It will build an electric vehicle assembly plant in Cambodia, and Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet welcomed this.

Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet posted on the social platform that he had met with Liu Xueliang, general manager of BYD Asia Pacific Automobile Sales Division, and BYD plans to invest in setting up an electric vehicle factory in Cambodia, which can build 20,000 electric vehicles per year. The Cambodian factory will become BYD's second production base in Southeast Asia. Hun Manet said that the electric vehicles produced by BYD's Cambodian factory can not only be imported into the Cambodian market, but also exported to other Southeast Asian countries.

According to Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet, BYD plans to assemble 20,000 electric vehicles in Cambodia every year. This large-scale production demand will undoubtedly lead to the creation of a large number of employment opportunities, thereby promoting the development of the local economy and social stability. This will provide more local Cambodian residents with relevant skills training and improve their employment ability and level.

With the entry of foreign-funded enterprises such as BYD, Cambodia's industrial system will be further improved and infrastructure construction will be strengthened. The Cambodian government recently released the "National Electric Vehicle Development Policy 2024-2030", with the goal of increasing its electric vehicle (EV) ownership to 30,000 by 2030.

In addition, BYD's factory in Thailand was completed on July 4. This is BYD's first passenger car factory established overseas, located in Rayong Province in eastern Thailand. BYD said that it took only 16 months from the start of construction to the start of production of BYD's Thailand factory, with an annual production capacity of about 150,000 vehicles, including four major processes and parts factories for complete vehicles. At the same time, BYD also became the world's first automaker to achieve the 8 millionth new energy vehicle off the production line, and the Dolphin was unveiled as an off-line model at the Thai factory. Wang Chuanfu, chairman and president of BYD Co., Ltd., said: "In the future, BYD will launch more pure electric models in Thailand and introduce plug-in hybrid models, combining Thailand's first-class automobile manufacturing capabilities with BYD's leading new energy technology to help Thailand's automobile industry chain transform and upgrade."
