Accellera Announces Formation of the Federated Simulation Standard Working Group

Published: 7.30.2024

Accellera Systems Initiative, a prominent organization dedicated to creating and adopting electronic design automation and IP standards, has announced the formation of the Federated Simulation Standard (FSS) Working Group to spearhead cross-industry collaboration to enhance the interoperability of simulations, models, and components, bridging existing standards with new open standards across various industries.

The FSS Working Group aims to integrate interoperability in industries such as avionics, space, semiconductor, automotive, and mechatronics. By establishing a standardized and open infrastructure, the group will connect existing modeling and simulation standards, facilitating the seamless integration and simulation of complex systems and systems of systems.

Martin Barnasconi of NXP will chair the FSS Working Group, with Mark Burton from Qualcomm serving as vice-chair. Barnasconi highlighted the intent to develop a standardized interface that supports interoperability throughout the product lifecycle.

The FSS Working Group will align with established standards such as ED-247 in avionics, FMI/FMU in automotive, and SMP2 in the space industry. This alignment is aimed at leveraging cross-industry synergies to develop a comprehensive and interoperable simulation ecosystem.

Various simulation approaches and standards have been developed over the years, yet many remain industry or application-specific, posing challenges for interoperability across different sectors. The need for a federated simulation ecosystem is increasingly important as supply chains diversify, requiring more collaborative and integrated simulation and modeling solutions.
