These new prices are set to be effective now, and began increasing on April 1, 2018 – according to industry sources. As a result, 2nd and 3rd tier component manufacturers will likely become an increasing source.
Many downstream device manufacturers are reportedly engaged in developing alternative products employing fewer MLCCs. Some of these downstream device manufacturers have already developed samples using six MLCCs instead of 12 without undermining the devices performance, sources said. Some of these downstream device manufacturers are also considering sourcing MLCCs from China-based suppliers, which offer cheaper quotes.
